Hard rock is intensely molded by blues music. Unlike conventional rock and roll which takes components from the “old” blues, hard rock uses a style of blues played with more modern instruments such as electric guitars, drums, keyboards and electric bass. A distinguished deviation from conventional blues forms is that hard rock is played on major chords related on tones of the minor chords.
Hard rock is usually related to many forms of rock music where their only mutual characteristic is that they deviate from pop rock, however, this is broadly erroneous. Two instances are punk rock and grunge.
